My Role
Development of public art projects at a water, power and sewer utility follow the timeline of their associated capital projects. This timeline can be slow and long and that was certainly true of the Westside Pump Station where this artwork is sited. Fog Lilies was completed in just a couple weeks however the artist had to wait nine years (from the commissioning date) to begin.
For Fog Lilies I built executive and project-team alignment, participated in artist selection, worked with the artist to establish site and project context, and provided creative review and approval throughout the development of the artwork.
The Artwork
Jet Martinez draws influence from cultures beyond his native Mexico, creating work rooted in a shared visual language of folk traditions. For Fog Lilies Jet was inspired by the natural beauty of the Cala lily and the work is evocative of the landscape of the artist’s childhood home.
